I’ve spent much of my life running towards goals – driving, striving, aiming to improve. Now, don’t get me wrong; I love to hustle! But my habit of rushing headlong though life cuts both ways. Knitting helps me slow down – to notice the small, soft, everyday things that bring me joy.

Every gift I knit isn’t really just for someone else, it’s also for me.
I’ve discovered that some of the most banal items in life are special to me. That’s the beauty of things; they don’t need to be beautiful to be beautiful to me. It’s the same with people, really. They can occupy a special place in my day-to-day or in my heart, and that makes them beautiful in my eyes.
I remember how much my mum loved getting out into the storm. We’d step out of the house into the inky blackness, excited to experience such powerful weather. I’d be wrapped in a plastic coat with scratchy woollens underneath, holding on tight to her hand, so I wouldn’t blow away.
