Stitch dictionaries are a bit like candy for a designer. We’re ALWAYS looking for new motifs to pull into our designs, right!? Alexa and I LOVE LOVE LOVE colourwork, so for us, Andrea Rangel’s fun, modern motifs are a joy! TLDR – get it now… and begin enjoying the adorable unique and novel motifs she’s included.

Andrea’s newest book – KnitOvation stitch dictionary – just launched!
“This book is for knitters who enjoy stretching themselves a bit, folks who want a little whimsy, and those who can’t wait to cast on the next new project’…
Andrea Rangel, author of Knitovation Stitch Dictionary
My favourite parts of this book are the unique and cheeky motifs, the in-depth comparison of yarns for colourwork, and the strategies Andrea shares for using colourwork patterns within shaped projects like hats, mittens, and sweater yokes.
Unique and Cheeky motifs!
Apple! Big Crab! Train! Moon Phases! 8 Ball! Penguin! It’s Toast! These adorable tongue-in-cheek motifs simply BEG to be put on a hat, cowl, or sweater yoke!
I also love some of the detailed, small-repeat patterns that are delicious and immediately I’m drawn to casting on… My favs are: Elevation, Iron Leaf, Trailblazer, and Forever.
And there are some really modern, cool florals too… I may need to stop everything now and cast on something using Iron Leaf or Butter Rolls…
Which is your favourite? I’ve shared mine, but with 150 motifs to choose from, you’re sure to have favourites of your own!
Yarns for colourwork swatch study
Ever wonder what different SORTS of yarn look like in colourwork? Andrea answers this question with in pictures and descriptions! SUPER helpful!
But how do you actually DO it … in context?
Hahaha this is the sticky, tricky bit, right? Andrea’s new book includes designs… but what’s even more valuable, in my opinion, are her design notes on the problem solving and adjustments you need to make to put colourwork designs of different types together on patterns like hats, yokes, and mittens! I love the strategies she shares! Alexa and I have come up against all of these design problems… I love the solid strategies that Andrea shares!
KnitOvation pairs perfectly with Strange Brew Yoke recipe…or the free Anthology hat and cowl!
