This is one of my favourite blog posts – it’s a love note (see what I did there? :)) to your work partner, and a really honest telling of the benefits and drawbacks of the work. Thanks for that. It is always helpful to read others having all-too-human struggles, and their strategies to deal.

I’m lucky to have another part-time designer friend to bounce things off. We meet pretty regularly, cheer each other on, and offer suggestions and sometimes gentle nudges. It helps that we have dissimilar esthetics, so there’s no competitive edge. And we’re both lucky to have a most supportive LYSO friend, who often backs our plays, and gives us real opportunities to reach a market.

I’d love to find a partner who really enjoys doing the writing/grading/math aspect of things, but that’s just me wishing to have ideas and hand them off partly finished so I can move on to the next thing. That struggle for completion is REAL.

Thank you for lighting a path. You’ve built an enviable, authentic brand and I often point my students at your tutorials, and at your patterns as being accessible yet engaging.

As an author, it strikes me how the journey to writing fulltime is much like your journey to running your business fulltime. In the beginning, the self-doubt. (Will anyone like my book?) The naysayers and doubters! The need for partners along the way (editors, proofreaders). But finally, when the finished Work is done, the feeling of triumph and joy cannot be compared!. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

I really appreciate your article Alex, and askcarolynwarren as well. As a writer hoping to publish, these feelings are very much the same as mine. Thanks for sharing this!

Why is this huge ad taking up space on a kbittibg site?

Hi Mercy – sorry, which ad is that?

Ads often show up in the blogs. Unfortunately that’s how WordPress works. Bloggers don’t have much control over the presence of ads.
