I started knitting these Glow sweaters in the winter a few years ago, in that deep dark cold time, when there’s no colour at all left in the Edinburgh cityscape.
The trees are bare-branched and grey. The city is all shades of tan, brown grey and cast-iron and the sidewalks are packed with folk wrapped up in wool. It’s beautiful in its cobblestoney way, sparkly at night with fairy lights and mulled wine at the German Christmas market, but there’s no escaping that it’s dark, chill, and the light is oh so short at 56 degrees North.
So I reached for the most beautiful yarns in my stash… and simply knit to please myself. Neve’s sweater was the first one I finished, and it was SO beautiful that I immediately cast on one for Max, and then a third, for me too… My pleasure in putting together these glowing palettes was very deep!

These were my kid’s very favourite sweaters, and these photos mark a moment in time. I took them just before our family moved to Canada and had our grand midlife adventure. They were so little! It seems somehow fitting to release this pattern upon our return to life in Edinburgh.
