On the eleventh day of Christmas, Tin Can Knits gave to me…
a beautiful beanie,
lovely lacy toque,
bon bon delight,
boot topping beauties,
twist stitch tam,
booties warm and wee!
hip slouchy hat,
honey flavoured mitts,
sea inspired socks,
and cabled mittens for under the tree!
smocking… it’s even easier than cables!
This hat is one of my go-to favourites for gift knitting! It works for guys or girls or the little ones, and I love smockin. Download the pattern, then knit along with our step-by-step smocking stitch tutorial. It creates a special effect and is even easier to work than cables, as you don’t need to do any of the fiddly business of slipping stitches to a cable needle, etc.
I knit a tiny version for baby Max last Christmas, when he was just 5 months old. He wore it to the beach in Tofino, where it was really cold! Max and I stayed close to the outdoor ceramic heater most of the time, we don’t do well in the chill.
Of course, the pattern also includes a lovely cowl pattern with the same smocking stitch pattern.
